Unfortunately, the amount of women who enjoy putting on sexy lingerie to watch porn is stagnant

In 1992, when women were polled about their pornography habits, only 23% admitted to watching it. That number went up to 73% in 2006.

A study by the French Institute of Public Opinion polled 1,101 people over 18 to see where porn stood with women today. Of the 579 women surveyed, 80% watch porn. The progress we’ve made in ten years…it’s great, isn’t it?

Men are still porn’s main consumers, obviously. 99% of men who participated said that they watch porn (Great job, guys!). But still, everyone in the porno biz pat yourself on the back on a job well done. No one thought it could be done!

So how did us lecherous pervs finally convince more women to watch porn?

Institute spokesman Francois Kraus believed that porn’s accesibility, through internet websites like Sex.com and On-Demand services, has removed a shame-factor of watching porn. On top of that, 62% of women who watch porn say that they do it to enhance their personal sex lives. They also credit the rise of “sex-positive” porn. “Sex-positive” porn is a genre that focuses on a natural looking cast, realistic sex scenarios, and a little production value.

Meanwhile, we’d like to offer our own hypothesis.

A study from the Journal of Sex Research took a look at the psychological well-being of porn stars and found them to be happy and healthy. Of course, this negates the old stereotype of having low self-esteem or being “Damaged Goods”. For the most part, you can see in the photos and the videos that the goods are in no way damaged…especially when they’re first starting out in porn…

They compared 177 female adult porn stars from ages 18 to 50, average career length 3.5 years, and at least one hardcore film to a similar group of women who are not porn stars. The study revealed that there is hardly any difference between drug abuse, homelessness, poverty, desperation, and sexual abuse (all traits associated with female performers) of the porn stars and regular women.

The major difference is that 70% of porn stars said that they love having sex, while only 33% of regular do (come on, ladies). However, the joke’s on you regular ladies because porn stars have more energy and sleep better. Overall, porn stars have high self-esteem, good quality of life, and a healthy body image (having people in love with your body from all parts of the Earth would help you have a good body image).

Coincidentally, these two studies were released on the same day. As promised here is our hypothesis after reading both studies:

Women are watching more porn because on a subconscious level they can tell that female porn stars are comfortable with themselves.

As you may remember from earlier in this post, the French study found that women only really watched the “sex-positive” genre or that they were searching for inspiration in their own sex lives. The French study also revealed that 72% of women believe that most porn was degrading to women. However, the porn star study shows that performers themselves do not feel degraded.

Could it be possible that the majority of women believe that porn is degrading because the abused-porn star trope exists in our cultural consciousness, even though that image is assumptive?

And with that image starting to be debunked, is it possible for more women to start enjoying more male-oriented fantasy porn?

Or is it that women watching more porn is due to the fact that sex-positive porn is new and finally understands how to appeal to female sexual fantasies and the psychological well-being of the performers is not a factor at all?

Some serious things to think about here. We would love for you to leave us a comment and tell us what you think about this.
