With print media steadily dwindling, magazines have to pull out all the stops in order to make ends meat. The latest example of articles designed to bait potential readers into buying the magazine (or looking at the online version) comes from FHM UK. They just declared Rachel Stevens to be THE SEXIEST WOMAN EVER.
Wait, who the hell is Rachel Stevens?
This is Rachel Stevens:
Rachel Stevens was a member of tween-pop band S Club 7, and we all know there ain’t no party like an S Club party. Nowadays she’s an actress and singer, though any success she may have had at those pursuits certainly didn’t translate to North America.
Her History in FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women is as follows: 2011 #49 | 2010 #32 | 2009 #44 | 2008 #29 | 2007 #15 | 2006 #14 | 2005 #13 | 2003 #4 | 2002 #2 | 2002 #2 | 2000 #18
Strange. She hasn’t cracked the Top 10 since 2003 and didn’t even place in the last three lists. So how then did she earn the title of sexiest woman of all-time?
Perhaps this behind the scenes video of Rachel Stevens’s FHM photo shoot…
Nope. That didn’t answer it.
Though there’s no question that Rachel Stevens is a very attractive lady, her questionable relevancy makes it hard to accept that she’s the sexiest woman ever. Maybe it’s just me, but for me, the women that deserve titles such as this one are able to stay relevant because they’re enduring sex appeal keeps them desired by the public.
You know women like…
You know, the greats.
But ultimately, this is what FHM wanted all along. Rachel Stevens doesn’t seem like the right fit for “Sexiest Woman Ever” because no one’s heard about her since the early 2000’s. But it’s that incongruity that gets people talking about the magazine and maybe this conversation will convert into units being moved.
Or this could all just be an elaborate set-up to generate hype for the rumored S Club 7 reunion…
Either way, Rachel Stevens isn’t who I would pick to be The Sexiest Woman Ever. But she’s very sexy, so it’s not that big a deal.
