Say goodbye to boobs, England…

Since last August, there’s been a long “Will they?/Won’t they?” of whether or not David Cameron’s Conservative government would take extreme measures to protect their citizens by the end of 2013.

Protect their citizens from what exactly? War? Famine? Pestilence? Death?

No, no, no, and no. The greatest threat to citizens of the UK is internet porn, which is why David Cameron is planning to instate an automatic internet filtering system that will stop people from accessing internet porn in the UK.

Once the UK Internet Porn Ban is in place, if adults want to watch porn on the internet, they will have to contact their internet service providers and opt-in for porn.

David Cameron has been justifying this plan to censor the UK’s internet by saying that given the ubiquity of the internet nowadays, minors are at serious risk of being exposed to sexual content that will no doubt skew their perceptions of sex forever.

I’m sorry if that last sentence came off as condescending because I do agree that no one under 18 should be looking at internet porn. However, it should not be the government’s responsibility to regulate information, erotic or otherwise. The responsibility of protecting minors from sexual content rests solely on the parents.

Obviously, as a pornographer, I don’t want the UK Internet Porn Ban to go through at the end of the year. But there’s a bigger issue at hand here than losing business because of the UK Internet Porn Ban. If the Cameron government goes through with the UK Internet Porn Ban, an ugly precedent for censorship will be set.

If internet porn is removed from the internet, why not start censoring alternative news sources or music with questionable subject matter from the internet as well? And not just in the UK, there will now be precedent set for widespread internet censorship in parts of the world that aren’t Islamist states, China or North Korea.

The other concern the UK Internet Porn Ban has raised is that it could censor valuable sexual health information accidentally. Who knows how well the ban will work? Will be able to differentiate between people curious about their bodies and people looking to watch sex videos?

What’s curious is that David Cameron is going through with the UK Internet Porn Ban despite the fact that citizens of the UK love looking at internet porn. Just take a look at this:

Porn WEB The UK Internet Porn Ban

The UK loves porn!

It should be noted that this traffic breakdown does not include mobile traffic, but 8.5% is still huge. Only 4.2% of traffic was people checking their email. Not everyone likes porn but everyone definitely has an email.

Naysayers say that this statistic could be inflated because UK citizens are getting all the free internet porn they can before the UK Internet Porn Ban goes in effect, but I doubt it.

In light that people consume internet porn regularly and that the ban is poised to ruin freedom of expression for everyone, I just can’t believe that David Cameron is going through it.

Thankfully, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Today, British ISP Andrews & Arnolds issued a statement that said they would continue to offer unfiltered internet.

“If you choose censored, you are advised: Sorry, for a censored internet you will have to pick a different ISP or move to North Korea. Our services are all unfiltered,” the statement said.

Good job Andrews & Arnolds. I hope more ISPs are as bold.

In response to many torrent sites (which you shouldn’t use) being blocked in the UK, a new service called Immunicity has been released and it promises that it will be able to circumvent the UK Internet Porn Ban.

Like it or not, internet porn is a part of life. And as Dr. Ian Malcolm once said, “Life will find a way.” And just as those crazy cloned dinosaurs managed to take over that island, I’m optimistic that internet porn will survive. If it doesn’t, we’re all screwed…

Tyrannies and censorship go hand-in-hand. This is purely a religious/personal morals issue. It had nothing to do with real human behavior. I started masturbating before I could ejaculate. I looked a Playboy and other such magazines before I was a teenager (in the 50′s). I’ve never raped a woman or molested a minor. I have had a lot of good sex… and a lot of not so good sex. But then, I’m a very sexual person. Other’s aren’t. In a modern secular society the personal moral/religious beliefs of some should not rule those who do not go to that church. Also, England tried to ban rock and roll. How did that work out. (See the movie Pirate Radio–I can’t give the URL, my computer is fucking up… again.)
